Mi MIX 2 Launched In India by Xiaomi starting INR 35,999, An Flipkart Exclusive

Xiaomi has launched a flagship phone, Mi MIX 2, in India at INR 35,999. It will be available exclusively on Flipkart and will have its first preview sale on 17th October on Flipkart & mi.com. Xiaomi is also offering a zero interest EMI across the sales channels.

Subsequently it would be available on Amazon and Flipkart in first week of November.

This is the second flagship launched by Xiaomi with Mi 5 being the first which was launched last year. Mi MIX 2 is a successor to Mi MIX that was launched in China last year however it never made to India

Mi MIX 2 comes in one variant only –6GB/128GB.

Display

The device has an edge to edge display measuring up to 5.99 inches full HD display with 18:9 ratio increasing the display area by 12.5%.

The front design has the camera placed at the bottom than the usual top right with active antenna. It does not have the ‘upper lip’ that any mobile device has on the top with all the sensors and front camera.

The unique feature is the hidden sound guided speaker that makes use of display and frame to resound making the speaker completely hidden without compromising on volume and high quality sound.

Xiaomi introduced Ultrasonic proximity sensor being used for the first time replacing the infrared proximity sensor which is more accurate, small in size and hidden at the top of the device.

Design

Xiaomi took help the renounced industrial design Philippe Starck who is known for designing world class yachts, homes and buildings, gave Mi MIX & Mi MIX 2 a full bezel less screen.  The front body has a super lens coating giving it a single piece look.

The body of the phone is made with four sided ceramic back and has a frame build with 7 series aluminum with round display corner for comfortable holding in hand. The rear camera is surrounded by 18K gold plated rim giving it a subtle decorative look.

Mi MIX 2 also has a facial recognition technology to unlock the phone and perform certain functions as set by user. This feature was first seen on Samsung Galaxy 8 phone that extensively uses facial recognition technology.

The device measures 152.6 X 73.95 X 7.7 MM and weighs around 163 grams.

Xiaomi also has launched a special edition of the phone that comes with a ceramic unibody design and it is supported by 6 GB RAM with internal storage of 128 GB.

Along with Mi MIX 2, Xiaomi also launched its first Type-C headphones, Mi Noise Cancelling Earphones giving a superior audio performance. The price of the headphones is Rs. 2,999 and would be soon available on partner websites and its own mi.com.

Xiaomi is number two in India and growing: CMR Report

According to a CMR India Report, Xiaomi stands at number two with market share of 16.2% in second quarter of 2017.

As per a report by IDC, it has grown fastest on Year on Year basis by 60% worldwide with the second company, Oppo, grown by 22.4%.

Recently it set a sales record of 10 million phones to be shipped in September due to high demand of its popular smartphone, Redmi Note 4. The recently launched Xiaomi A1 is also getting a very positive response and is getting sold out in a few minutes during its flash sale.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared on Weibo, the China’s social networking giant, “We have good news to share: More than 10 million Xiaomi phones were shipped in September, marking the first time in our history we have crossed 10 million units in a single month! This means our business has achieved a new level. The demand of some models has outstripped the supply.”

The company expects to sell more handsets than last year when it managed to sell 58 million units due to new product launches at reasonable prices without compromising on features and gaining popularity in India.

In the recent concluded sale of Flipkart & Amazon, Xiaomi claims to be number one selling brand and it sold more than 1 Million+ smartphones within 48 hours i.e. 300 phones per minute.

Globally Xiaomi is number 5 with shipment of more than 21 million in second quarter in 2017.

Looking at the trend, Xiaomi is not far from Samsung, the market leader with 25% share in India and who knows, it might overtake Samsung in the near future.
