ESIC COVID-19 Relief Scheme: Pension Eligibility and Benefits

ESIC has released detailed the “ESIC COVID-19 Relief Scheme” after the announcement of pension scheme by the Prime Minister’s Office of India.

ESIC COVID-19 Relief Scheme

ESIC has framed the COVID-19 Relief Scheme to provide help to the families of the IPs (ESI registered employees) who died due to COVID-19. The scheme shall help families in distress across India.

Scheme Eligibility

  • Employee must have been registered three months prior to date of COVID-19 Diagnosis
  • 70 days contribution within immediately preceding one year of COVID Diagnosis

Scheme Validity

The Scheme shall be effective for a period of two years w.e.f. 24.03.2020.

Benefits under the Scheme

Eligible Beneficiaries Pension Term Amount of Pension
Spouse During Life 3/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Two or more widows During Life 3/5/No. of widows * 90% of average daily wage 
Each Legitimate or Adopted Son Until the age of 25 years 2/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Each Infirm Legitimate or Adopted Son Until the Infirmity Lasts 2/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Each Legitimate or Adopted unmarried daughter Until the marriage 2/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Each Infirm Legitimate or Adopted unmarried daughter Until the Infirmity Lasts 2/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Widowed Mother During Life 2/5 * 90% of average daily wage
Total Pension amount shall not exceed 90% of the average daily wage rate else the benefit shall be reduced proportionately
In absence of Above Beneficiaries 
Parent During Life 3/10/No. of parents * 90% of average daily wage 
Grand Parent During Life 3/10/No. of grand parents * 90% of average daily wage 
Any other Male dependent Until the age of 18 years 2/10/No. of dependents * 90% of average daily wage 
Any other Female dependent Until the age of 18 years or marriage 2/10/No. of dependents * 90% of average daily wage 

Scheme Implementation

The claimant shall submit below documents with nearest ESIC Branch Office:

  • Form CRS-I
  • COVID-19 Positive Report 
  • Death Certificate
  • Aadhaar/Birth Certificate of beneficiaries
  • Bank Passbook copy of beneficiary

Power to decide the case shall be with the Regional Director/Sub regional office in charge.

Death after recovery from COVID-19 shall also be considered if the death occurs within 30 days of the recovery or discharge. If the date of recovery cannot be ascertained then post COVID-19 death after 45 days of testing COVID-19 positive shall also be considered for relief under the scheme.

Time limit for approval of claim shall be 15 days from receipt of complete claim.
