Facebook or Twitter: Buy FB Over TWTR, Here is Why

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Wednesday were scheduled to answer the questions on Capitol Hill from senators (lawmakers), who were investigating the Russian attack on the 2016 presidential election.

Google’s representative was also supposed to be there but the company’s committee found no one sufficiently senior to face the Senate. Google is dealing with foreign meddling in phishing attacks and on video platform YouTube.

Senate Hearing

The tech bosses of FB and Twitter are expected to show that they are fighting Russian active measures, has taken steps for internal security and other practices, and they’re more prepared now that they are not for the big influence campaign of 2016. This is the second time in this year the intelligence committee has conducted a public session on how social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc. can be used to further foreign influence operations. The committee had also heard from social media experts back in August.

FB had already announced in late July that the company has removed 32 accounts involved in a political influence campaign with links to the Russian government.

As per Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg, “the leading social network and other internet firms are in arms race it will take the combined forces of the US private and public sectors to protect America’s democracy from outside interference.”

In front of the lawmakers:

Facebook: Sheryl Sandberg presented herself very well as per the expectation and referred this fight to be against foreign meddling as an “arms race,”, which implies that Facebook will continue to be very active in making the platform safe and transparent.

Twitter: Twitter said they are rethinking its dynamic and growing role in society and has neutral stance. Jack Dorsey said, “impartiality is our guiding principle.”

Google: The company offered to attend, but the senators declined their invitation in hopes of getting Larry Page to appear.

Facebook Vs Twitter

Fake Account Detection: Facebook proved to be better than Twitter with regards to Fake Account Detection. Facebook was able to create profiles with more detailed information that were not detected. Twitter flags only basic profile information

Fake News: Facebook has made an effort to reduce distribution of fake news and harmful content as it is reflected in new content rules and the creation of a “Fake News War Room.” Further, Facebook has come up with two important transparency tools related with ad in the second quarter of 2018. On the other hand, Twitter has set up the Ad Transparency Center in order to better inform the users of what they are seeing. The company has created a certification process for “issue ads” to verify the identity of the advertisers.

Overall, Facebook has taken lot of steps compared to Twitter for internal security and other practices
