Maruti Suzuki Jimny Launch Marks Goodbye to Gypsy and Counter Jeep

The India’s largest auto car maker company Maruti Suzuki has a history of phasing out the yesteryear models by replacing it with the new generation cars. Maruti Suzuki Jimny is an example of it. There was a time when Maruti Suzuki Gypsy ruled the roost, but soon its competitors took over this bulky carrier passenger vehicle and the company lost its market share.

In order to revive its market share in this segment, Maruti Suzuki has launched a substitute for it named Jimny. This SUV is loaded with the features and is perfect for the urban driving. Let’s have a look at its technical specification and some images.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny -Technical Specifications

The much anticipated car has already been launched in an event in Japan with following technical specifications and features. For the Japanese market, Jimny will have a 660c engine, while the higher model will have 1.5 liter engine, both coming equipped with a four wheel drive standard that means the car is well suited for off-road driving . The car design will be on the similar lines like Mercedes Benz and features like squared off wheel arches and tail lights on low bumper will be there.

For the Indian market, it is expected that the car will have an engine of 1.0 liter Boosterjet or upcoming 1.5 litre petrol engine as available in Ciaz.  Further, It is predicted that Jimny won’t be available in diesel version in the international market, the Indian might get the same with 1.3 ddis diesel.

Jimny is believed to be loaded with the utilitarian yet plenty of modern features like LED headlights, push-button start, alloy wheels, air conditioner, 7 inch touchscreeen to keep you entertained, Android Auto, and multi-function steering wheel. Apart from that, it is revealed that the car will have a ladder frame chassis to preserve its rugged look.

Jimny Launch Date

Its still under the wraps when the car is launched in India, but we think if the car is priced right, then this SUV will find a lot of potential buyers in India. It is expected that the car will officially make its way in India sometime around July.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs. Jeep Compass

While the newly launched Jimny specifications are still under wraps, but it has been revealed that it would come equipped with 5 powertrain option with engine capacity of 1.2 liter K12C DualJet and 1.0 liter K10 Booster engine and K12B 1.2 liter petrol engine, on the other hand Jeep compass with 1.4 liter and 2 liter engine, which means still Jeep Compass is scoring above.

Another bone of contention between the two is price. While, Jeep Compass is valued at 15 lakh and newly launched Jimny is estimated to be valued around 8 lakhs, a huge difference. The measurements of newly launched Jimny is 3300 mm in length, 1475 mm in width and 1715 mm in height, and Jeep compass 4,395 mm in length, 1818 mm in width and 1640 mm in height.  The wheelbase of newly launched is 2250 mm while that of Jeep Compass is 2636 mm, which means Jimny is best suited for city driving.

Though the car has been revamped in the different ways to attract the audience, but will people welcome Jimny as the next version of Gypsy or will it be able to replicate the success created by its predecessor, is yet to be seen.
