Auto Expo 2018: Maruti Suzuki Swift Launch, E-Vehicle Emflux One Unveiled

Auto Expo is an important event for the Indian automobile industry, which showed its vision for all-encompassing electric-powered transport vehicles at the pre-open day of the Auto Expo 2018.  The 14th edition of the ‘Auto Expo-The Motor Show’ 2018 will open for the public from tomorrow. The Auto Expo 2018 has witnessed at least 65 unveilings and 14 launches. The import thrust of this expo is on electric vehicles.

The major highlights of Auto Expo 2018 till now, includes the launch of the new-gen Swift hatchback by Maruti Suzuki India at an introductory starting price of 4.99 lakh to Rs. 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Though unofficial bookings kicked off in January itself.

From the two wheeler industry, UM has launched India’s first geared electric cruiser bike Renegade Thor, whose price will start at 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bengaluru-based start-up Emflux Motors has introduced India’s first electric superbike, pre-orders for which will start from July 2018. Further, Twenty-Two Motors has launched their electric scooter Flow and US-based Cleveland CycleWerks has introduced its line-up for India.

Maruti Suzuki’s New Swift 2018 Launched

The new swift has an all-new design and more modern styling. Its features includes the LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, diamond cut alloy wheels and LED tail lamp. Additionally, there is an updated interior with new upholstery, and dashboard featuring a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. However, the engine options are unchanged.

The car will be competing with Tata Bolt, Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio, Toyota Liva and others.

UM launched India’s First Geared Electric Cruiser Bike

UM has launched two new urban cruises at the Auto Expo 2018 – the Renegade Duty S and the Renegade Duty Ace. Both the bikes will have a 230 cc engine. UM Renegade Thor Electric Cruiser introduced in India will be available at Rs. 9.9 Lakh. The bike will have 180 km top speed, fast charging, and Bluetooth connectivity. UM has also planned to launch a low-cost version of the Renegade Thor electric cruiser in 2019, that will be priced at Rs. 4.9 lakh.

Emflux One – India’s First Electric Superbike

Emflux Motors has introduced India’s first electric superbike, called the Emflux One at the Auto Expo 2018. This will give steep competition to the cars. The bike will be powered with the 60 KW AC induction electric motor, will have Samsung Lithium Ion 9.7 kWh high power cells with power limited to 53 kW from the controller.

Emflux One will have superior performance and style. Moreover, the super bike will have components like Brembo brakes with dual-channel ABS, single-sided swingarm, Ohlins suspension and fully connected smart dashboard with artificial intelligence capabilities.

The pre-orders for the Emflux One is going to start in July 2018, while the first deliveries will begin in April 2019. The bike will be priced between ₹ 5.5 – 6 lakh, and the purchases will be completely online through digital payment methods.

Due to the government thrust on electric vehicles and changing Indian preferences, lot of electric vehicles are unveiled at Auto Expo 2018. The pursuit for all electric new car sales in less than a decade-and-a-half to 2030 is part of PM’s Modi’s plan to win the cause of combating climate change
