GST Update: Change Mobile Number and E-mail of Authorised Signatory

Taxpayers have complained that the intermediaries to whom they have delegated the responsibility of GST registration have used their own e-mail address and mobile number on GST portal during the process. And now, they are not willing to disclose the details to the taxpayers who want to change email id or mobile number in GST.

One of the key challenges was obtaining the GST number, another was the filing of the return and yet another that frustrated the dealers was the complexity of the concept. And now it seems there is one more challenge that is ruining the model- the role of intermediary.

Change Mobile Number or Email in GST

The government has taken it as a challenge and has added a new functionality wherein the tax payer will be able to update his mobile number and e-mail address in the GST website. This can also be easily done by the Jurisdictional Tax Authority by following the below-mentioned steps:

  • If the taxpayer does not have login password: he/she has to directly approach the jurisdictional tax officer of GSTIN allocated to the business. Jurisdiction officer can be identified using search taxpayer option available on the portal.
  • The tax officer will verify the valid business documents and identity proof of authorized signatory associated with the mentioned GSTIN.
  • The tax officer will then upload the documents with verified new e-mail address and mobile number as written by the tax-payer to reset the password and authenticate the activity.
  • Once the process is completed, the taxpayer will receive the temporary password and username on his/her new email id along with the password reset communication.
  • The user then needs to log in to the GST portal using first time login link.
  • After that. the user will be prompted to change the username and password as per his whims and wishes.

In this way, the tax-payer can change the mobile number and e-mail id of the authorized signatory .

The implementation of GST is more of a challenge than reform.  Hence, the proactive steps shall be taken by the government, so that its success legacy is continued.
