Umang - One App for All Govt Services of New India

The shock waves were not sudden. It all started with the building of Aadhar card and unifying India and then came a move that created ripples in the political history of India- demonetization to increase digital payments. When people were still struggling to absorb demonetization affect there was another news GST that hammered the business man and common people alike. While for some manufacturers it brought a ray of hope and for others it was like a bitter digital pill to swallow.

With all these things in common, it is certain that our honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is all set up gobble up the digital drive once again with the launch of Umang ( Unified Mobile App for New Age governance) .

As the name suggests, Umang is an app that will bring hope for the people and end a psychological disorder under which a common man is made to believe that bureaucrats drive the economy.

Services Benefit for the Common Man?

Now, it is an obvious question, how will this app bring a smile on the lips of a common man. In this app, the government is planning to provide 1000 services with a single touch button. The services include:

  • Woman safety– Woman safety has become of prime importance post Nirbhaya case. Hence, this app offers a security net.
  • Students – Students can refer to ePathshala digital learning resources, AICTE Institution list, CBSE Results,
  • Farmers – Farmers can get information about sum insured and premiums under crop insurance. They can also check their soil health card using mobile number or location details.
  • Gas Booking – You can book your Gas refill, Check refill history and raise a direct benefit request using your mobile number or Aadhar card registered under app. Facility available for Bharat Gas, HP Gas and Indane Gas.
  • Employees – Employees can view their Aadhar linked EPF passbooks.
  • Medical Services – Online Registration System (ORS) for patients to book appointments, check blood availability, lab reports etc.
  • Other services – The government plans to offer other personalized services like passport Seva, E-post, crime and criminal tracking, income tax, scholarship, municipality services, utility bills, e-court, mother and child tracking, public distribution system, maintaining Kisan records, IRCTC and health care.

Moreover, this app will be available in 12 Indian languages in addition to English.

Why is the government planning to launch this app?

The government is planning to launch this app to end the woes of a common man. Here are some features that would make it the master of all the apps.

  • Robust Technology– Backed by robust and dynamic technology, this app will create digital literacy among the people alike.
  • Convenience and standardized services– another benefit of UMANG will be the convenience that it will provide to the users. Being a single touch interface the consumers won’t complain about the lack of standardization.
  • Sync all the services– with this app, the government is planning to sync all the government mandated documents and services like PAN card, Aadhar Card, Digi Locker, Payment Gateway and RAS.
  • Dedicated services-Imagine a government servant saying, I am available for you 24×7. Well it definitely gives you a belly laugh, but this app is going to that.
